Xavier added its second transfer in a week when Hampton big man Ben Stanley committed to the Musketeers.
Stanley will apply for a waiver for immediate eligibility.
Either way Stanley will have two years at Xavier, as he already took a redshirt year at Hampton. If the waiver is granted, Stanley will likely backup Jason Carter at the power forward spot.
Stanley, 6’6”, starred for Hampton last season, averaging 22 points and 7.2 rebounds per game. He’s not a shooter, but he’s capable of hitting an open look. He shot 33% from three-point range on 1.3 attempts per game.
Stanley is a powerful athlete who does his best work on offense at the rim. He shot 59.7% inside the arc last season.
He’s also a capable shot blocker, as he blocked 1.5 shots per game. Stanley wasn’t great on the defensive end, but given his athletic traits it’s easy to see how improvements could be made.
As for how this effects 2021 recruiting, this probably ends Xavier’s pursuit of other front court players with Stanley and Cesare Edwards in the fold.
Xavier will still pursue another wing in the 2021 class, probably only taking one.
