Rockies 10 Reds 4: The Kids Can Hit
This post comes from our friend @RedsDaily4
Elly De La Cruz hit a 470 foot BOMB for his first Home Run of the spring. He also walked two times, which is very encouraging.
"I saw that and knew it was a blast," teammate Noelvi Marte said, via translator Jorge Merlos. "I’m proud of all the work he has been able to do in the offseason. You can see that it’s showing off here."
Noelvi Marte made his spring training debut and went 1-2, but both balls were hit over 102 MPH.
"Very comfortable out there. I’ve been looking forward to this day for a couple months now. I’m glad to be out there," Marte said via translator Jorge Merlos. "That’ll give me enough time to get out there and be ready by Opening Day."
CES hit a single in the first inning that had an exit velocity of 111.6.
Hunter Greene working on off-speed pitches Hunter Greene threw three innings, giving up two hit, two earned runs, walking two, and striking out two. Out of his 46 pitches, 26 of them were off-speed. He threw 12 sliders, 10 splitters, and 4 curveballs. He is clearly making an emphasis of trying to dial these pitches in.
Pitching Struggles
Lucas Sims pitched 0.2 innings and really struggled with his command. He only gave up one hit, but walked two and hit a batter. He gave up five runs, but only one of those was earned. He struck out one.
Julian Aguiar closed the game out for the Reds with an innings of work giving up two hits, two earned runs, walking none, and striking out two.
Nick Martinez Strikes Out Five Nick Martinez was one of the lone bright spots for the Reds today. He threw three innings, giving up two hits, no earned runs, striking out five while walking nobody.
Miscellaneous Notes
- Stuart Fairchild added a hit and is now hitting .455 in spring.
- Tyler Stephenson was 0-4 and is still looking for his first hit.
- Jose Barrero and Elly De La Cruz both had errors in the field.
